ITI works in countries where the World Health Organization (WHO) has documented widespread trachoma.

Building on the success of Morocco, ITI currently supports trachoma control programs in 15 countries, including:

  • 14 countries with active trachoma control programs: Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Mauritania, Nepal, Niger, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam; and
  • One country—Guinea-Bissau—in preparation to begin an ITI-supported trachoma control program this year.

Morocco reached the WHO’s ultimate intervention goals for the elimination of trachoma.  Currently, Morocco is in the surveillance phase in order to obtain certification from the WHO indicating that trachoma is no longer a public health threat there.

ITI has field offices in Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Tanzania and Vietnam.
