International Trachoma Initiative - Photos From The Field
Trachoma is an easily spread infection of the eye. Repeated
occurrences scar the upper eyelid, eventually turning it inward.
The eyelashes then scratch the cornea, leading to blindness. It is a gradual yet painful condition affecting the poorest of the poor. These photographs document communities suffering from blinding trachoma and highlight the work of the International Trachoma Initiative and its partners to eliminate the disease.
